A good driving instructor can be very helpful to the novice driver as he/she is experienced in teaching fundamental driving skills, as well as having an emergency brake, if needed to avoid a serious accident. To the advanced student the instructor can improve maneuvering skills and observations checks and finally preparing the student for their driving test.
Before you can book a test you will need to obtain a Learners permit from the RMS – (this involves passing a drivers knowledge test).

- However if you are under 25 years of age, you need to have your Learners licence for 12 months and must have 120 hours practical driving experience written in your log book.
- If you are over 25 years of age, you must have your Learners permit for seven days before booking your driving test with the RMS.
The cost of a driving lesson varies from one driving school to another. With Henry’s Driving School it is currently $65 for one hour, and $119 for a two hour lesson . (For more information please refer to our detailed pricing list).
On your first please pay at the start. After your first lesson you may pay on the completion of your lesson if you wish.
If you are under 25 years of age you need a log book to comply with the RMS Licencing Regulations. The log book provides the evidence needed to show that you have completed 120 hours of practical driving before doing your driving test.
You must book your driving test with the RMS (we can book the test for you if you wish). The practical test lasts for 35 to 40 minutes. An assessor (RMS testing officer) will accompany you in the car and direct you on a pre-determined RMS circuit (more information can be provided by your driving instructor on the procedures involved).
The number of driving lessons a student may need will vary enormously and is dependent upon whether the students is a novice or an experienced driver. The shorter answer is – you do as many driving lessons as needed so you can be a competent, safe, confident, skilled driver worthy of holding a licence to drive a motor car on our public roads.
